    I'm new to sewing and I'm so confused... I thought you weren't supposed to use a straight stitch on stretchy fabric? I don't think I'm ever gonna figure all this stuff out. I get so overwhelmed sometimes, it makes it NOT be fun anymore. ☹

      I’m going to make a longer video about it. Very often isn’t that easy to connect an old hem with a new one. This is what I was doing. Connecting a new hem line with an old one. Cheers 🥰

      @gillianboate 10 годин тому

      This channel has it in a longer video called a "ban roll" technique; it sounds/looks like that may have come from folk calling it a "band roll" technique? At a glance in this short my guess is it's using a tearable and/or water soluable band (like wonderweb type stuff) which can be sewn in for stability and rigidity on a rolled hem, and then the excess is easily torn away.

    I don't have a bobbin case like yours. I have transparent bobbins that you load directly into the 'hole' underneath the needle on the machine. I don't know if there is a way to lower the tension on the bobbin like mine. Do you? Another question: you don't pull on the fabric when you see? Doesn't it 'curl up' when you get down to seam 5-6-7? Also, everywhere I read, it says to wind the bobbin by hand, when you wind the elastic thread, but you do it on the machine, so that's OK, too?

    • @DowntownTailoring
      @DowntownTailoring 2 дні тому

      Hi! I’ll try to answer everything. You can wind the thread by hand, but you have to be sure that you are adding a little tension while doing it. Otherwise you take the risk to clog the thread while is coming out and damage your work. Although I don’t pull the fabric, I do make sure is flat when sewing it. In machines like yours you still can lower the tension but it is trickier. I’m going to make a video answering all your questions and will tag you. Cheers

    • @MarithaAndersen
      @MarithaAndersen День тому

      @@DowntownTailoring thanks a lot. The main reason for my questions are that I have one working hand/arm, so I have to find ways to do things differently. Winding bobbin on the machine while holding the thread would work. And since I can't pull on the fabric while stearing it from the front of the needles, only making sure it's flat would probably work, too, as long as it doesn't 'curl up back on itself' behind the needles while sewing the smocking. Really want to try, but am afraid that it would be too difficult and just become a mess. This makes me hopeful, so thank you❤️

    Thank you so much for this video! It’s exactly what I needed ☺️ TIP: ⭐️To avoid tangles ⭐️ Since most of us don’t have wax … here’s a simple hack to keep your thread 🧵 from tangling… all you need is a A BAR OF SOAP! 🧼 🧼🧼🧼🧼 Simply take your threaded needle 🪡 and push it through any bar of soap 🧼 you have on hand: •>🧵•>🪡•> 🧼 and VIOLA! Tangle Free Thread! 🧵 😁 I personally keep a tiny bar soap that I got for free for hotel years ago and it has lasted me forever and fits perfectly in my little sewing box ☺️ Hope that helps you all … HAPPY 🪡 SEWING 🧵y’all!

    Why not cut off the extra instead of folding and pressing down. It will look lumpy and after a few wears a ridge will form where the extra material is folded.
